Show notes
In Episode 50 Gabby speaks with Jamie Friend, a naturopath dedicated to making health simple and sustainable for her patients. Nearing the end of her degree she became acutely aware of how removed she felt from herbal procurement and was interested to understand the nuances of herbal supply and manufacturing to ensure she was not adding to the already high demand on mother nature.
Jamie and Gabby discuss:
-
How we are so far removed from the tradition, the cultivators, and the harvesters of our medicines
-
How a growing population increases demand for herbal products, which ramps up clearing of natural areas
-
Some of the issues which can arise with self-prescribing
-
Contamination and adulteration of herbal products and other supplements
-
When it comes to herbal medicine, quality matters (a lot!)
-
How we can enact positive change by showing suppliers we care by making contact with them and asking questions
-
The benefits of growing your own herbs at home
-
Jamie's favourite herbs to start growing at home
