In Episode 14 Gabby speaks with Monique Evans about Naturopathic Principle #6 - Prevention. 
 

Monique graduated as a naturopath from the Southern School of Natural Therapies in 2022 and is now practicing. She is passionate about educating and empowering everyone to prioritise & value their health. Monique treats conditions of any nature but has a love for supporting mental health conditions such as anxiety, insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome & low mood, as well as supporting female reproductive & hormonal health. She is passionate about improving the health of everyone's gut & offers support for those on a vegan diet. She loves spending time in nature, reading & being with her cats. 
 

In this episode, Gabby & Monique discuss many ideas relating to the principle of Prevention, including:
 

  • Prevention is about promoting health & wellness, as well as looking at a person’s past medical history, family history, & other things which might predispose them to disease

  • It is working towards true wellness, rather than merely focusing on disease resolution

  • Prevention emphasises longevity, looking at how we can support ourselves & our lives in a sustainable way - prioritise your health now & thank yourself later!

  • Preventative medicine benefits community health as a whole, as lifestyle diseases have a huge cost to the individual & the public

  • Addressing modifiable factors in our lives to prevent disease and disease progression, such as what we eat, how we move, think, & live, are essential to good health

  • Often health issues that run in families have a lot to do with lifestyle habits which are passed on from one generation to the next, so let's build healthy habits & pass those down instead!
